Swedish nuclear waste dumping
artdoc May=1992

Northern European Nuclear Information Group (NENIG)
February 1990

In promoting its plans for their waste dump sites, NIREX have
frequently compared their plans for a dump site dug deep into
the ground with the existing dump at Fosmark in Sweden, where
the low level waste from the Swedish Nuclear Industry is to be
stored. This site is built in the rock underneath the Baltic
Sea, with access being gained through a tunnel from the land.

While the Fosmark dump site is smaller than the planned British
site, its existence does make arguing against the British Site
more difficult than it would be if Fosmark did not exist, or
was closed down.

NENIG believes that the Fosmark site is in itself a danger to
the health of the.Baltic, and, by existing, it makes it more
difficult to fight the British dump site plans which are a
serious threat to the North Sea and North Atlantic. We
therefore urge the Nordic Nations to persuade Sweden to close
down the Fosmark site.

Our work is only possible with your support.
