THE AGE OF CONSENT FOR MALE HOMOSEXUALS
refdoc August=1991

JOURNAL ARTICLE , User Ref = 009686 , Acc Date = 01-Oct-86
J C Hindley
Criminal Law Rev, Sep 1986 pp595-603

Considers this issue in the context of a report by the Police
Advisory Committee on Sexual Offences which recommended a
reduction in the age of consent to 18 although a minority
favoured a reduction to 16 on the grounds that homosexual men
should be treated equally with the heterosexual majority and
lesbians. The decision to opt for 18 was due in part to a desire
to protect people aged 16 to 18 from `special relationships' with
older men who might exploit them, and partly on the basis of
confusing medical evidence on the age at which a male might
arguably reach a firm conclusion on his sexual preferences.
Argues that none of this evidence stands up to close scrutiny and
that there is no case for discriminating against homosexual men
on the age of consent. 21 notes and references .
