On 5 May the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) advised the Metropolitan police force that there is insufficient evidence "to prosecute anyone for the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the attack on Duwayne Brooks following a re-investigation into the crime." Doreen and Neville Lawrence, who waged an 11-year campaign to bring their son's murderers to justice, described the CPS decision as "devastating".
