The mothers of three black youths have claimed that their sons were beaten-up and racially abused by Hackney police. The boys aged 13 and 14, were chased across Hackney Marshes by police who had been called out over a stone throwing incident. One of the youths needed hospital treatment for head injuries allegedly caused by truncheons. No charges have been made against the youths but the mothers, in conjunction with Hackney Community Defence Association are suing the police for damages. City Limits 2.8.91.
